Serenity

Serenity

8 x 10 Oil on Canvas Panel
This was painted as part of the 365 challenge even though I haven't been posting them lately.  I let life get in the way of art!  I love the calm peaceful feel and colors of this painting.  The colors were chosen by request of an upcoming commission.  Still working on painting ideas but since they wanted something calm and soothing, this might be a good study for that piece.  Thanks for looking.

Open Door

Open Door

8 x 10 Oil on Canvas Panel
365/2013 No 16
Day 16 of the 365 art challenge!  For some reason, I've been thinking of doors lately.  With the blues and browns which are one of my favorite color combinations, I find this a very restful painting.  Thanks for looking.

Twinkle Toes

Twinkle Toes

365/2013 No 15
6 x 6 Oil on 1-1/4 Gallery Wrapped Canvas
Those that know me know that ballet was my first love!    There's so much grace, beauty and strength in ballet.  While I have done some ballet drawings, I haven't yet attempted to paint the grace of it.  You may see a series of ballet related paintings as that's something I've had in mind for quite some time.

Geometrics

Geometrics

365/2013 No. 14
8 x 10 Mixed Media
While I did not post No. 13 for the 365 art challenge, I did create yesterday! I hand make journals with painted covers, hand torn archival paper and coptic stitched.  Those are what I worked on yesterday, and am still working on.
This piece is a mixed media piece.  I'd been waiting on some layers to dry before I painted it.  While I've never really done much with geometric shapes, that's what called to me on this piece.  Love how the colors came together and even blended in some spots.  May need to try this again with a straight painting piece. Thanks for looking.

Autumn Dreams

Autumn Dreams

365/2013 No. 12
8 x 10 Oil Abstract on Canvas
It's a cold day here in Oklahoma, and I must still be wanting fall weather!  At least the fall season is one of my favorite color schemes.  This is a palette knife painting which started out using some paint still on my palette from another painting.  It's wonderful how you can take a little bit of leftover paint and make something totally new from it.  Thanks for looking!

Water Garden

Water Garden

365/2013 No. 11
5 x 7 Oil Abstract on Canvas Panel
This painting started as another background, but I could see real possibilities in it so further developed it to be my water garden abstract.  I love the way the colors flow together in this one.

Color Burst

Color Burst

365/2013 No. 10
8 x 10 Oil on Canvas Panel
This is Day 10 of the Artists 365 Challenge so this is painting number 10 for the year.  Until I began art journaling last year, I never realized how much I love color!  My journal pages are full of color, and I've noticed this creeping over to my paintings more and more.  This painting more or less created itself!  Contrasting colors used in this painting make such an explosion of color!  I hope you enjoy viewing this as much as I enjoyed painting it.

Riot of Color

Riot of Color

365/2013 No. 9
8x10 Acrylic on Canvas Panel
Day 9 of the Artist 365 paintings challenge!  Today I was in the mood for a fun and colorful painting.  Once it was painted, I decided to highlight some of the obvious shapes in it.  Love the play of the primary colors.  While this challenge is very challenging, it's going to be good for me to need to produce art every day.  Thanks for looking!

Evening Tide

Evening Tide

365/2013 No. 8
8 x 10 Oil on Canvas Panel
Today was a day full of errands which didn't leave much time for art.  So while I painted this pretty quickly, I'm still pleased with the overall look.  Some artists can limit themselves to 20 or 30 minutes to a painting. That's definitely not me!  However, during this 365 day challenge, I am trying to complete  some of the smaller ones in that time frame.  I think it will help me to loosen up and not worry the details so much.  Although I also think I'll be painting plenty of my larger paintings that sometimes take days.  I hope you enjoy traveling this journey with me.

Winterland

Winterland

365/2013 No. 7
7 x 9 Oil on Canvas Panel
This is Day 7 of the Artists 365/2013 Challenge and it's already being challenging to create artwork every day!  It's also being a great learning tool for me!  This is a simple winter scene.  The purple background against the ever green trees is a combination I'm liking.  Then the highlighted white tree stands out against these colors.  Thanks for looking!

Amethyst Dreams

Amethyst Dreams

365/2013 No.6
11 x 14 Acrylic on Canvas Panel
I really have no idea why I seem to be on a purple kick at the moment other than Amethyst is my birthstone. When I want to paint yet don't have something specific in mind, I automatically paint my type of abstracts.  Originally these started out as background paintings but so many of them turned out so well that they became my abstracts.  I just love the various shades of purple you can achieve.  This actually started out  with dark blue and had pink added to achieve the purple effect.  Thanks for looking.

365/2013 No. 5

Landscape

365/2013 No. 5
7x14 Oil on Canvas
This is a companion painting to yesterdays.  I had two 7 x 14 canvases that had been in my studio for quite some time so I decided to give them a try.  The idea I was trying to achieve was a simple landscape with a more colorful sky.  Not sure this photo really gives justice to this painting.

Apparently 2013 is not being my year for technology.  I'm having trouble with both my computer and my camera.  I had to change browsers to be able to update my blog which is  why I'm a day late posting this 365/2013 Artists challenge.

Wind

Wind

365/2013 No 3
11 x 14 Oil Abstract
One of my painting buddies named this painting for me.  She said she could see the wind blowing in this one. The orange brown could even represent Oklahoma dirt.  I like the flow and texture in this painting.  Thanks for looking!

365/2013 No 2

No 2 in 365/2013 Challenge
8x8 Oil on Canvas
Purples, blues, orange make for bright and bold colors for an abstract.  I love combining the different colors to see how they will constract or blend with another color.

365/2013 No 1

  Looking Out

No. 1 in 365/2013 Series
5x7 Oil on Canvas Panel.
Since I've taken up the challenge of a painting a day for this year, I decided to also challenge myself to try some subjects I've never tackled before.  People being one of those I've completely avoided.  Before year end, I would like to try a portrait.  The eye has so many color variations, reflections pluse highlights and shadows in the eye area.  Since this is my first attempt, I'm pleased overall with how this turned out.

365/2013 Challenge

Many artists accept a challenge for themselves of creating one piece of art every day of the year. There is a group of artists accepting this challenge. I've joined this group. As I've never done art on a disciplined schedule before, this may be a real challenge for me. I can just imagine how much someones art could grow if you're actually creating each day. So please visit me often and see how well I've accepted the challenge!
